Diego Mosqura-Garcia, 31, of Meriden, was arrested on Friday, March 7, and charged with evading responsibility in a crash causing serious injury, driving with a suspended license, and failing to exercise due care near a pedestrian, police said.

Maurice Carrier was legally crossing Pratt and Cedar Streets in Meriden around noon Thursday when a blue Ford Explorer hit him and kept going, police said. A few moments later, a Toyota RAV4 ran him over, but that driver remained at the scene.

Carrier was airlifted to a trauma center and remained in stable condition on Friday, Meriden police said.

Investigators tracked the Ford Explorer to Meriden Public Library, where they found Mosqura-Garcia. He admitted his involvement in the crash when officers questioned him, Meriden police said.

Mosqura-Garcia was arrested and released on a $5,000 bond, police said.

The crashes remain under investigation. It's unclear if the second driver, a 41-year-old woman, will be charged.
